Security requirements

Busselton Margaret River Airport (BMRA) is a Security Controlled Airport under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 - Federal Register of Legislation and the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 - Federal Register of Legislation. These legislative requirements are designed to deter, detect and prevent unlawful interference with aviation operations.

Access to airside areas, including aircraft operating areas, aprons, taxiways and other security controlled zones, is restricted to personnel who have a genuine operational requirement to be there. In accordance with Commonwealth aviation security legislation, any person requiring unescorted access to airside areas must:

  • Hold a valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Correctly display their ASIC at all times while in an airside area
  • Comply with all airport security, safety and access control requirements
  • Present their ASIC for inspection upon request by authorised airport personnel

Individuals who do not hold a valid ASIC may only enter secure areas when issued with a valid Visitor Identification Card (VIC) and while complying with the airport's visitor access requirements and escort arrangements.

All airport users have a responsibility to protect the security of the airport by challenging unauthorised access, reporting suspicious behaviour and ensuring that access control measures are not compromised. Failure to comply with aviation security requirements may result in the suspension of access privileges, removal from the airport precinct, or regulatory enforcement action.

Busselton Margaret River Airport works closely with airlines, aircraft operators, ground handling organisations, contractors, tenants and service providers to maintain a safe, secure, efficient and compliant operating environment. All organisations operating at BMRA are responsible for ensuring their personnel understand and comply with applicable aviation legislation, airport procedures and operational requirements.

All airport users are expected to proactively contribute to a secure and safe operating environment. Organisations must ensure their personnel are appropriately trained, hold valid documentation, and understand their responsibilities under the Busselton Margaret River Airport compliance framework.
